Throttle issue?
« on: October 18, 2012, 02:36:28 PM »
Took the '98 Osprey 175/Johnson 90 out today for some fishing.  Te boat ran great for an hour or so then at full throttle it was only doing 7 knots.  It was running 28 knots at WOT.  The tach was reading 4500-5000 at WOT before whatever it is went wrong.  Now it reads 2500.  I think its a throttle cable issue as they seem really tight when in gear.  BTW when the motor is in neutral the throttle works fine all throughout the RPM range.   Any ideas?  Thanks!

Sounds like it overheated, you have lost oil flow or have a fuel pressure problem that lead to the System Check to engage.

Hear any alarm go off?

Do you have a separate temp. gauge? If so did you notice the reading?

Do you have a System Check gauge or tachometer with one built in?

Not uncommon at all, with overheating the usual suspect.

Just a guess.

Did you look at the cables under the cowling to see if one has possibly popped out? Carb linkage work OK?

I know of the system check but wouldn't it also cause this in the neutral position.  Everything seems to be fine in neutral, it just when the gears are engaged it did this.

I'll also check the oil tomorrow after wok and see if it is low.
