Very inexpensive semi-custom cover for 175
« on: January 09, 2012, 02:26:58 PM »
I picked up this gulfstream semi-custom cover from wally world in the fall.  The price is silly cheap so my expectations were low.  But when it arrived, I was pretty impressed with the feel of the quality.  The other nice thing is that it fits my 175 really nice - it is just long enough to cover the motor too.  It's advertised as trailerable but I haven't pulled it yet so i can't confirm durability when trailering.  I built a pvc pipe structure underneath it to prop it up for when it snows - but fortunately we haven't had any real snow up here yet.  Not sure yet how it will hold up to a harsher winter but since I store my boat next to my house, I figured I will be watching it anyway and clearing off any snow if my pvc prop-up wasn't effective enough.
Anyway, I thought I'd point it out as a cover option for fellow 175 owners.  If anyone else has used this cover and has positive or negative experiences, it would be nice to hear.  For my part, I'm very happy with the purchase so far especially considering the price tag which is not much more than tarp pricing.

...and as the ad says, "...great for tailoring."   So if you want to get undercover while taking in the hem on your girlfriend's skirt, you made a great choice.   A two-fer!

If this cover has the straps sewn in going over the top I got the same thing off eBay. The cover fits great and covers the entire boat including the engine and transom bait boxes. The straps have the quick release adjustable straps. Nothing else needed..!

Worked great last winter.  But then again, we had a really mild winter.
Sags a bit with the snow on top.  I had built a pvc frame for underneath but I think I need to spend a bit more time on that part this year.  The cover has held up pretty well so far.. no issues, only minor fading so far.  I imagine I will get a couple more years out of it.
FYI, This is not the one that has straps sewn on top of it like the one on ebay.  The straps are built in and do not run across the top.  In the picture via the link above, the straps shown are actually extra straps that you can add on.  I didn't even use those.  Those extra straps are for when you are trailering. There are plenty of built in straps that can be secured to your trailer.
