Need help with a possible leak
« on: March 13, 2013, 01:29:19 AM »
Yo guys. I have found a consistent problem. It seems I am getting water leaking in from above  on both of the sides of the stringers almost like the cockpit scuppers are just dumping the water in. I poured a bucket of water in the drains and they are draining  as they normally would. Any ideas where the water is coming from. The boat is on the dry by the way. The boat is a ccp 222

Aren't you in the process of rebuilding this CCP?

Could be several places it's leaking. Still, need some pics.

Good luck.

Broken, cracked hose or loose clamps on the deck scupper to the discharge scupper on the hull side?

I would bet on your deck drain hoses.  My CCP is a 1986 and the hoses were cracked in several places and very brittle when they were removed.  I was taken on a little water as well and that was the culprit.  Those hoses are near about impossible to get to unless you have the back end cap cut off as I did.

It could also be the hose that runs from the coffin box to the thru hull on the starboard side right above the water line.  Again, the deck would have to be cut out to remove that hose.

I would concentrate on the deck drain hoses.

I just installed new drain hoses before I reglassed the caps in I will have to check the connections to make sure they are tight. The coasties had put pie plates in so the could access the nuts for the oversized tow cleats. I have a foreword fish box in the deck and no coffin box

What about the pole holders on top of the gunnels, I know my boat's pole holders drain into the bildge.

When are you seeing the most water? after washing the boat?

The box drains into the main bilge I have plug in that tho so I can just toss a pump in there after it rains. I notice water in there after it rains I am not at the washing stage yet but I'm sure it wil leak then to checked the cockpit drain hoses and both are tight as can be. I am now leaning towards the drains them self now ( used year old west marine silicone when I reinstalled will take them out and use 5200)  no rod holders in yet . If the foam was water logged will it seep out? The deck on the has no soft spots and its the orig. deck so unsure about water in the foam
