96 Yamaha 200 Saltwater Series Oil Cap Leak
« on: August 19, 2012, 06:20:42 PM »
Tilted the motor all the way up and dogged it in place which I have done several times this summer with no issues.  Today, got to the ramp, went to tilt the motor down and noticed 2 stroke oil had leaked out of the motor all over the inside of the (new and beautiful!) transom.  Came from the cap on the small tank inside the motor.  Cap has some dry rot (a few small cracks) but otherwise seals fine and again this only happened today.  Any thoughts?
Thanks!  Dan

Curious,
They have been known to leak.  IIRC, the cap is the float, sends the oil level to the gauge.  Replaceable....but might be pricey for what it actually is.  Try a ty-wrap around the base of the cap...
