starting my first rebuild

I just bought a 68' 19-6 and want to do quite a bit to it.  I have done a little bit of glass work in the past but i want to get this one right.  I have a few general questions before i get started.  Im sure i will be asking a ton more in the next few months or years.  

1. Polyester vs. Epoxy resin (what are the pros and cons of each)

2. what are the prices, availability, and types of different core material (Klegecell, Nida-core, etc.)

3. I am completely in the dark when it comes to gel-coat and paint, can anyone provide some input on price differences, and effort required for these.

I am far from an expert, but I just fumbled my way through rebuilding my transom and I also repainted my 222 inside and out. I am pleased with the results and learned alot along the way.

I prefer epoxy over polyester because: I am more familiar with it, It smells less, bonds better to cured polyester, is easy to mix, there alot of thickeners and additives you can mix with it for differant purposes. I used West System Epoxy and would recomend it. It is pricy at around $100.00 per gallon.

I considered using coosa board, the cost for my transom would be around $250.00 and there was no nearby outlet. I used AC plywood.

I used Interlux Perfection to paint inside and out. My original plan was to roll and tip off with a brush since I never spray painted. It took 1 1/2 gallon of 2 part epoxy primer, list price aroun $100.00 per gal. I used 5 qts of Perfection list price $80.00 per qt. Fortunatly I had a connection to get this stuff 1/2 price. I rolled and tipped the primer but did not like the results so I decided to spray the Perfection. I wish I had sprayed from the start!

I used West System Epoxy and would recomend it. It is pricy at around $100.00 per gallon.

It's a good product, but has a few shortcomming's.
1st is price.
2nd is pot life.
You will play hell with it on doing large job's.

Several other epoxies are chaeper and will do a good job.
System 3 and FGCI's epoxy. I've been thru about 50gal of FGCI's 2 to 1 epoxy.
It cost's me $40gal to the door. That includes shipping and Fl. tax.

It comes in round 1ga can's. The spring loaded top's you see on the can's are from a auto body supply house. They use them for mixing base color's. All my measurement's are done with graduated measuring cup's. I can get down to 7.5ml in samll pill cup's.

Pump's can and do become inacurate. That's bad.
