WIndline dive ladder install

OK guys I picked up a Windline dive ladder for the Explorer and I have a question on the install.  As far as mounting the  location it looks like it can only go in one spot.  Thats the easy part.  It came with a nice stainless backing plate which is good.  I popped the pie plate in the spalshwell  and was feeling around inside the to make sure the area was clear for the backing plate... nothing in the way.    I could feel the top of the hull and holy cow that transom is thick!   I was held the ladder and mount up to the hull to see how it will look and I expected the ladder to angle out a bit.  It seems like it hangs straight down....  or even angles in a bit on the bottom.  Is this right or do I need that optional additional angle wedge?   For those of you with dive ladders are they straight down?  I'll get a pic and post it to give you the idea.

FWIW.. I have a Windline mount on the Osprey (but no ladder yet) and the mount face is almost plumb.  I expected a little up angle on the face but the rake in the transom seems to negate the rake in the mounting block..?!   It must work because the ladder stayed with the PO but it makes me wonder how easy it is going to be to use with out a shim in it to get the ladders little more off vertical.  Which did you go with, 3 or 4 step?  It's on the list but I have not made a decision..

Pete that is the breakaway mount..  I was thinking about getting that..  does the ladder hang plumb?  here is a pic of what came with the ladder..  and Amy holding it in place

Marc that is the same mount I have but the black shim is flipped the other way.. Can you flip that one around?

Mine is pretty much vertical,you could fab a starboard wedge to get it to the angle you want.
I do like the breakaway mount,no worries in shallow water,

I'm with the first idea to shim it out, more of an opposite angle of what is shown.

If you mounted it as it is now....and forgot to remove it before you took off...the whole assembly would bent to the rear and there would be no way to remove it....the top would be pinned against the transom.

Just installed a Windline two step telescoping ladder on our 175 Osprey.
We founs as time has moved on that it was getting a little more challenging to reenter the boat with the single step ladder that came with the boat.

I did need to drill two new holes in the enclosed bracketts. The new ladder made contact with the side rail and the tie-down on the transom.
Rather than drilling the swim platform it seemed better to do the brackets and this has worked out well.
