Questions x2
« on: May 20, 2012, 06:25:13 PM »
Hello,

Does anyone with a 170 know how high or where the boot stripe should be located? Do you have it wider in the back and thinning as it runs forward?

I know I should put in the water after it's rigged and running to get a good measurement but i would paint it now.

How are most of you rigging the transom live wells? I glassed all the holes before painting. Should I use a high speed pick up and riser? How have you done this?

One more question. What size prop should I go with on this boat with a 98' 115 Evinrude.

Thank you for your time.

I can try to help you with the stripe.
Here is a picture of mine sitting in the water.

And her sitting on the trailer so you get a better idea of how the bottom is painted.

I can measure down from the lip at the aft if you want and post it (or up from the bottom).  The way the boat sits in the water will vary with each boat but the general attitude should be about the same.
I think the best way is to float it and then mark it.

I don't have a stripe on my boat.  But this is what mine looks like in the drink:

I used a clam shell through hull with a riser pipe and drain holes in the bottom of the boxes.
It looks like this on the inside:

Like this on the outside:

A cupped 17" stainless, a 19" aluminum, or what ever you can find.  I am running a 14" pitch four blade from a suzuki with a custom thrust washer.  I lost some top speed but I could pull a fat guy on a tube with out a flinch.

Thank you very much for the information. Just what I needed.

With the clamshell facing the incoming water does it force the water into the riser?

Rick,

If you have time to measure the stripe please do so and post back. We have the same weight engine.

In the aft - 7" to the top of the stripe from the chine (16 from the underside of the cap)
I have 115 on the back so everything can vary.
