290 Zinc sizes
« on: May 24, 2012, 10:58:32 AM »
Howdy,

Just bought a 290 that surely needs the zincs replaced. Any chance someone could give me the shaft size, rudder zinc size, and any other zincs under water?

I'm gonna hop in the nasty water and change them and would prefer to have new ones waiting, at least for below the waterline.

Appreciate any help.

You really need to get under there and find this stuff out, just for your own benefit, that way you assess the condition of your underwater gear...struts, shafts, stuffing boxes, rudder ports, rudders, hull zincs, the whole nine yards.  I would assume the boat was in the water when purchased and you were not afforded a good view if it was on stands or a lift...

There are a couple of 290 owners here, I'm sure they can give you the lowdown on sizing (the real deal is the shaft dia., I'd imagine 1 1/2").

At the price, the bottom could be made of the screen door covered in that spray rubber from the info-mercials.

I'm going under sometime early next week (all of my scuba gear has sat so long that I've got to get the tanks visualed and my regulator checked before I feel good about it...) but I was just hoping since the boat is a 45 minute ride, each way, from the closest marine supply store, that I could have some zincs in hand rather than get in, take off old zincs, drive hour and a half, get suited back up, get back in to install new zincs.

Shaft dia is also my biggest question.  I'm sure a handful of pancake anodes would suffice for the others...

Thanks,
Ryan
