What year did aquasport stop making the 222 with the modified V and classic lines?

It was actually introduced twice in its life. '72-'76 12 degree V and then a very similar version was introduced (with some needed inprovements) in '83-'87. This later version was the Osprey line that ran parallel to the CCP line at the same time. My '73 and Lewis' '83 look outwardly similar with the same classic line with differences being in the interior. Lewis' had the improvments over mine but his transom won't allow for twins if that suits your fancy.

The hull looks older than '81 but its been modified with a solid transom, new bow deck and looks to be the old style cap. She looks 70's to me. Since it is no where near original its is hard to tell.

Bow deck looks original to me. Just like mine. Transom is totally different with the shelf running across. Notice the anchor locker, exactly like mine.

I think that one is a 81.

This is from the 1980 brochure. Basically the same as mine and the 81. They just don't have the "hook" in the badge. Must be a 83 thing.

Were the stringers different in the early 80's "Osprey" models?  The 1981 that I am looking at has not had floor or stringers replaced.  I know most of the 222's from the 70's have had or need their stringers and floor replaced.

Just because the floor is firm does not mean you don't have wet foam filled stringers.

That 22-2 is definitely an '81.  I know the owner personally.

Just a point of clarification - that 1980 brochure is for 1981 models, not 1980 models.  Aquasport made many changes to update their boats for the 1981 model year.  Not many changes from 1975 to 1980.

Fitz and I conferred tonight on the differences between the seventies and early eighties models.

The biggest change was the elimination of the rigging trough panel on the aft starboard deck. Aquasports per initial design featured a closed bilge for safety....that is, no water could enter below decks. Therefore no need for bilge pumps, bilge access, etc. The rigging chase therefore was carried above deck.

The flow-thru vent system provided the closed bilge with fresh air.

The downside to this chase was if it were impacted/breached...it was by design the lowest point on the deck. The water immediately drained to the bilge. This is true not only on 22-2's...but 19-6's and 170's from the seventies.

Due to potential structural failure, the chase was eliminated. Concurrently, aft boxes were added to aid/cover the exiting rigging. Because of their width, and the subsequent transom configuration/design...twin engines are not possible on these production hulls.

The forward casting deck was also changed,  IMO a response to competition. Certainly not an improvement there. One big hatch....great, until the plywood core rots out.

The forward anchor locker though... a handy improvement.

If you look at the pic of the fish box opened on mine above, the "core" is visible. Just the small piece of ply in the center of the hatch on the underside. The rest is solid glass. 3/8" thick in places and very stout. To replace it is very easy. Mine is starting to check in places but the edge rests on the lip of the opening and until it starts flexing I will leave it as is.
