Anyone ever rebuild an old Robalo?
« on: February 17, 2012, 08:51:46 PM »
Way back in the 80's I had a 25' Robalo CC, 1976 model if I recall correctly. It was already carrying around a lot of water weight, and running in a chop was like driving through a carwash, but it was a beast. I liked the layout and always thought it was a particularly handsome boat. Just wondering if anyone has ever restored one? Wonder how hard it would be to dig out all of that foam? Chop off the transom and go at it with a pressure washer?

Saw a rebuild of one once.  Thing was built like a brick shizz house.  Rear deck cap had 1/2" glass, 3/4" ply, 1/4" glass, 1/2" ply, 1/4" glass.

I thought it was a little overkill myself, but better to have it than not.

Remember watching Mark Sosun's show when Robalo was a sponsor...

Got a buddy building a mullet boat out of an old 20 right now. Everything on it is real thick, the foam between the liner and hullsides is probably 2 1/2 ", the liner itself is twice as heavy as an AS one. The curved transom was kind of a pain to raise though. The 20s were very nice riding boats...

Just saw a 25 get a full transom armstrong bracket and twin F150's. Pretty boat boat a strange set up with no bilge and all that foam. That foam is almost whaler like. You can keep all that teak, way too much up keep.
