Fuel Additive Experience/Questions

Anyone heard of or used the Formula X2 fuel additive? I've seen it advertised on television, but I do not know of anyone that uses or has used it. It seems like the answer to all ethanol and water-in-fuel problems out there, which on the other hand seems a little too good to be true. I've emailed their customer support with some specific questions, as I cannot determine from their website and advertisements if it is compatible with a fuel/2 cycle pre-mix situation, as everything I’ve read and watched on it is only mixed with fuel and some water. Just curious as to whether or not anyone has had any experience with it.

Formula X2 has been discussed on here before, you may want to read through this thread??

Its like the 2-stroke oil question... which one to use, ultimately you have to decide what makes you feel comfortable. They all have their + and - . If you can avoid using ethanol laced fuel, that is probably your best alternative. Just remember, nothing can "remove" water from the gas, all these treatments do is help hold it in suspension so it can burn with the gas. Good luck.

Thanks for the direction to the old X2 discussion. I also found a good thread on THT site as well.
I use the Startron in the tank on my skiff, which has a 4 stroke, so I'm only putting fuel only in that tank, but on my AS I'm pre-mixing the fuel and 2 cycle oil. I'm currently using Sta-Bil Marine in that tank, but considering a switch to Startron across the board. I don't see anything in the threads, or on Starbrite's site or in the Startron section of the site that addresses the use of the product in the pre-mix situation. I would assume that its "OK" for use in the pre-mix situation, but I know what happens sometimes when I assume......

I think your OK on the premix. I have found that premix two stoke gas seems to be a bit more stable than non pre mix. I use the startron stuff or stabil in my boat with premix non ethanol. As Marc said the best bet is to avoid using the ethanol fuel if you have a source for it. Go to Pure-gas.org to find sources near you. The extra cost of the non ethanol is worth it compared to the problems it creates. Keep in mind ethanol fuel is intended for cars. A fuel that literally absorbs water right out of the air has no business on a boat.

Got it. Thanks for the info wingtime. I figured that was the case. I try to use ethanol free as much as possible. I've got the pure-gas.org saved in my favorites and on my tablet from another topic. I'll be using it religiously going forward!
Fortunately, there are a decent number of stations in Eastern NC offering ethanol free fuels.
