94' 200 Gas gauge ohm's? for sending unit purchase
« on: January 09, 2012, 03:05:58 PM »
Hi Guys, Have gone thru most of the previous threads on gas tank sending units and have not found any reference on "olm's". I am going to order a Centroid unit and they have a list of mfg's of gauges to confirm the olms's of the gauge. I understand it's important to match this requirment. I have a 94, 135hp Merc and I have all the paper work given to me when I bought the boat (Original ower). Nothing on the gas gauge installed, everything else is "Quicksilver"  products. Can anyone confirm the mfg/olm requirements. My only other option is to pull everything apart to get inside the console to test the gauge. Thanks for any help, Greg L.

I'm life, height, weight and electrically challenged so......

what does "olm" stand for?

You wouldn't maybe mean "ohm"?

Edit: That's a rather high tech sender.

Yes, it;s "Ohms", I have replaced the unit once in 2002 with OEM unit (Cylinder with sliding piece inside) but who has them now? Do not want to use the swing arm type. The Centroid unit is adjustable and is damped to keep needle jumping to min..

If you don't want the swing arm type you should check into getting a WEMA sender.

Resistance readings are 33-240 Ohms.  Pretty standard throughout the sender industry...

What SeaBob said - senders are pretty much standard.  Why don't you want a swing arm?  Properly installed, they have a great history of reliability.
