24 Aquasport Diesel. ANY INFO??? Has anyone seen or own
« on: January 11, 2010, 07:05:29 PM »
Just curious if anyone seen or own one of these?  late 70's model 24 Aquasport diesel with a single straight shaft Perkins turbo diesel.

Wanted to know what you guys think about this boat?  Whats the beam on the hull? and the most important question: Is the engine inside the center console or by the transom?

This thing should move packing a 240HP turbo diesel. I think its a 240hp if its turbo right?

Any info on this model would be greatly appreciated, and if you got pictures ill buy them from you

I really need to learn my way around this site.   That right there tells me the most important thing I wanted to know about the 24 Aqua diesel.  The engine is under the console.

I'm not sure if this is the same boat but mines not a diesel, but pretty much original, and yes the engine is under the console and the panel with the seat comes up which give total access to the running gear and the rear floor panel is removeable for access to the fuel tanks and the inside of the transom, I wish I had a diesel for the fuel economy, but  the gas engine isn't to bad I just don't open up the secondarys all the much  The room to fish is great even with a cooler and the live well.

terntwo,  Thats a very clean classic boat you have there.

Ive always been a sucker for classic lines.  I would trade a 2003 hull for a 70's or 80's if they were both in the same conditions.   I have a guy that wants to trade me a 24 just like yours but diesel  for my big 28 cc thats for sale.   I think I will do it depending on the conditions of his boat when I see it tomorow.

Hey can you tell me honestly if this type of hull is a dry or wet ride?   Whats your cruisig speed and top? and exactly what year is your boat?

Last question,  Hows the storage up front? 3 doors built into the deck?

Thanks.....

clctrader, I really don't know the top speed I really never pushed it up that far I run around 3000 rpms to about 3400 rpms which is 19 to 21 knots depending on tide, load of fuel and the size of the crew. Yes she's wet on a quartering sea and wind but with the trim tabs you can adjust it to be a not-so-wet ride, hey it's a center console  ( notice the enclosure around the console). Also when I troll into the sea and wind you get some spray over the bow, summertime it feels good, December it S@#Ks  There isn't a whole lot of storage the middle hatch isn't very deep and is insulated with a drain to starboard and the two side hatches aren't a whole lot better they have a step in them but are narrow. When I get over to the mainland I'll stop by the boat and take some pictures if you want to see inside the hatches. I really like these inboard ,low center of gravity boats, My brother has a 1977 Correct Craft that has no where near the cockpit space this boat has. The year is 1976 I have to fix it on the signature, Anything else you need just ask.  :D Doug

Nice boat Doug!   :salut:

Nothing quite like an inboard - especially when you do those cool inboard turnarounds!

Diesel power would be a nice option on the 246 - I'd say go for it!

Hi to all, im finally back online... took off for a year to go sailing, upon my return,  lack of work locally forced me to travel for work but now im back home and back to my projects.
so, my 246 diesel is in the water, if i can figure out how to post pics ill post some, basically its great, and, despite some early thoughts by some that the weight ,might be too much , she sits perfect.
my initial prop is WAY under pitched, right now im running 20 at 2000 rpm and 25 at 2500, my exhaust temp at 2000 rpm is 650 and 5 psi boost and 9 psi at 25 and 750 degrees exhaust temp, i cut my fuel pin pretty agressivelly but despite that it doesnt smoke no matter how hard i fuel it as there is not enough load.
at 20 im in the ballpark of 3.8 gph. my prop is a 20 X ...?  i dont remember the pitch, i think 18, ill have to look at it as i installed it 3 years ago.
3 blade, 1.56 - ZF63V , now that i have a good baseline i can add a few inches of pitch and go for a 4 blade prop. im shooting for 24 at 2000 rpm.
