I went by and talked to my local "boat" guy today and he said I will still need to pull the motor

For some reassurance...I pulled my trim system (fastrak) off of my 1996 150 ocean runner last week because it got stuck in the up possition and my release screw is stripped.  I had no problem just supporting the bottom of the engine on a ladder, pulling the retaining pins out (well, tapping them out with a brass pipe and small hammer), and then was able to pull the trim and tilt system out and set it on a table to mess with.  It did retract, but it wasn't because of anything I did to it.  I think the system just decided on it's own that it was time to retract.  
Here's a bad pic of it removed and the motor is obviously still on the boat...

If anyones rubrail is discolored my fix really works well.

I mean it is nasty!     I have tried all different kinds of cleaners letting them soak and it just doesn't touch it. So a little elbow grease (and some soaked in water with a little dish detergent in it) 150 grit wet or dry sandpaper. Sand carefully and this is what happens.

 



After sanding with the 150 I will go to 400 grit then 1000 grit then 2500. I tried this in one spot about 2 feet long, after it dried it was very blue but had a white cast to it. This cast is from all the extremely small scratches left from the sanding. I got my buffer back yester day and with some of the compound I have buffed over this area. Guess what? It shines like it is new! The buffing deepens the color back to where it should be and it no longer has the white cast. It got dark on me so no pics of what it looks like when done but I'll get some tomorrow.


This is my point. If you have a green or blue like this one and we all know you can't get any more this might be worth a try.

Naw bro, thought it was great! We gave it one helluva  effort. Not sure if ever reported the final outcome....hope I did, should go back and ck....but seems like they said 500 feet at 7.50 a foot...Jeez.

We think that Lee Harvey Rubrail acted alone on his quest for the Evergreen, Soldier man rub rail aquistion. I guess we will be sanding our rub rails with Lewis until we unlock the supply chain mystery...

When I bought this thing last month little did I know that the registration (in the past) had some issues. After talking to several different CS agents with the DNR in GA I found out that when the PPO (previous, previous owner) had registered the hull around 2001 he registered it with the wrong HIN. No one figured this out for about 3 or 4 years. When he went to re-register it in 2004 he gave them the correct HIN and they gave him a new set of registration numbers. He registered it again in 2007, then sold the boat to the guy I bought it from. Right after I bought it I called it in to change the registration into my name and when I gave them the  number they said it wasn't good any more. HUH???? This guy had never changed the numbers on the bow and this boat has been riding around for at least 10 years with the wrong numbers on it!
In addition to that the sticker from the state was dated 2010 so it just went out a few months ago. When I read that number to the CS agent they said that the sticker was still in the PPO's name. HUHHH? again! When I called the guy that I got it from and asked him about not changing it over his answer was" well the sticker was good till 2010 and he hadn't used the boat in a year".
The CS agent had told me the only way I could get it changed over to me was if the PO had his bill of sale from the PPO. The only other option is sending a certified letter to the PPO and having him either answer or not answer the letter. If he answers the letter he can fill out a form and send it in and the DNR will change it over. Or if he doesn't answer the letter I could petition the DNR to change it after 30 days of it not being answered.
When i asked the guy about the old bill of sale he said " sure I got it!" I was like "Thank God!"
I sent it in and just got notice that it was processed 2 days ago so now "Slipaway" is now officially mine!
I have waited to put the correct numbers on her until this crap was figured out so tonight I put her numbers on. They are pretty close in color to the rubrail. Now all I need is the sticker!
I am glad Georgia doesn't require a title, just the bill of sale.

Dang, Lew when I started reading that saga, I was getting a sick feeling in my stomach, just glad everything fell into place.  I know you must have been thinking all kinds of stuff, you always hear about this kind of stuff, but then when you experience it whew....

I got the new wheel on, finally. This boat came with a custom made sunbrella cover. About a month ago I had put it on because there was a bunch of rain coming. Thunderstorm showed up about 4 in the morning with a lot of heavy rain. I woke up and looked out at the boat and the whole cover was collapsed into the hull and now I had a bathtub full of water. Got it off the boat and found that every single seam had been ripped open, the thread was gone. I had it resown by a lady up on Lake Lanier and just put it back on for the first time. I think she did a great job.

 



The new wheel, I think I am going to love this thing!

I haven't finished polishing yet, but this is what it looks like now on the deck around the anchor locker. You can't sit anything up there anymore or it will slide off.

BTW, those little twist catches for the lower console door, at least they are still available should those ones really start to pit (they do that, you know).  Don't know if you've thought of this, but putting the little bumper pads on the corners of the door reciever can really snug up the fit between the door and the frame.  I've found those little twist catches allow the door to rattle over time...
