Fuel dripping from throttle bodies.
« on: December 12, 2011, 07:42:13 PM »
1999 Evi 200 FICHT

Prior to winterizing boat, noticed fuel/oil mix running down mid-section from lower engine cover. Not pouring, but slow leak. Pulled silencer off and noticed some fuel in throttle bodies. Air silencer/seal cover had about 1/4" of fuel/oil mix in bottom. Boat is running great w/no check engine light.

Anyone see this before? Course of action?

Thanks
Dan

I don't know much about ficht motors but I believe they are direct injection right?  If fuel oil mix is leaking out of the throttle bodies that could be a sign of bad reed valves..  If the ficht has them    I'm sure there is someone else on here with some ficht knowledge.

There's a reed box assy for each throttle body, but i'm not sure the function of the assy.

This leak just started recently. It's slowly pooling fuel in the silencer then drips into lower engine cover and down shaft. I hope it's not a big deal but want to be sure.

This is a good explanation of a two stroke engines cycle.  The ficht of course injects the fuel directly into the combustion chamber.

Look through these threads over on THT... maybe something similar?

Below is the response I got from E-Nation:
----------------------------------
It is oil than is dripping down the throttle body shafts on your FICHT motor and occurs on 1997 through 2001 models. No gasoline-oil mix is in the crankcase or air intakes due to the FICHT design.

BRP minimized the leakage problem by redesigning the the shaft bushings for the 2002 and newer FICHT style motors.

Some folks use an oil absorbant pad under the throttle bodies to catch the drippings.
