Preserving 5200
« on: December 29, 2011, 03:17:02 PM »
Hey Guy's,

Ever get tired of throwing away partially used $11.00 tubes of 5200 because it kicked while sitting in your toolbox after 2 weeks? Keep them in the fridge. I needed some today and after 4 months in the cave fridge @44 degrees it was as good as the day I opened the tube. Make sure the threads on the cap and tube are clean before you put it into the cyrogentic chamber. The other thing I like about chillen the 5200 is if you need high build for mounting engines etc without sagging, it will hold on to a bead longer on a vertical surface without running.

I love it when a plan comes together!

I do the same thing with some paints to keep them from setting up overnight.  Brushes too!

I keep it in the freezer.  Take it out about 30 minutes prior to use and works great.  I kept one in the freezer for over a year and was as good as the day I bought it!

I need to use mine less!  BTW, if your HD sells it, about the best price you can get for 5200 in cartridge form...how I buy mine.  My HD in Spring Hill carries it, about $12 a cartridge.  My buddie's HD in Oldsmar?  They don'y carry it...
