Filling rubrail holes
« on: November 18, 2011, 08:25:56 AM »
Hello to my fellow aquasporters, i havnt posted in a while and now that the boat is wrapped and stored i'm thinking of my spring projects i will want to be doing.
I would like to replace my rubrail and was wondering what would be the best product(s) to use to seal the old holes? Also any tips and techniques for installing the new rubrail would be greatly appreciated. A great day to all!
Thanks, Arnaldo

Wow! WELCOME BACK Arnaldo! Been way too long, hope things have been going well :thumright:

A good quick fix, since it will be hidden, would be West epoxy thickened with sandable micro-balloons.

lay out the new rub rail in direct sun or use a head gun to make it ply able for the install. It a two person job though to get it on there straight.

Good to see you, Arnaldo!  What type of rubrail are you going to install?  The heavy stuff that comes in a roll, or the rigid extrusion type with an insert?

hi guys - thanks for the great welcome. I'm gonna be installing the type sold in a roll -probably black with the white insert. I spent a lot of the summer boating thats why i havn't posted. I went to Hyannis,MA for three weeks this summer and i am so glad i brought the boat...spent the days cruising the bays and fishing, i was very impressed at how well a 17 foot boat handled the seas. The only thing that bothered me at first is the constant water coming from the drain holes in the stern but you get used to it . I took some great pics of the boat before it went into storage but like usuall i cant figure out how to upload them....By the way, what are "sandable micro balloons?

download the product guide part 2 page 7.

they are basicly teeny tiny hollow spheres that you add to the epoxy, thickens it to a putty and is easy to sand :salut:
