225 OMC carb cleaning

As most of you all know I have a new to me 245 Explorer with a 1998 Johnson 225 ocean runner on it.  It's been sitting for a while.  I'm thinking of cleaning the carbs.  I've heard they have a plastic body on them.  If so what Carb cleaner is safe to use on them?  Any advise from those that have experiance with these would be appreciated!

The best cleaner we find (consistently) is BRP Engine Tune. Those are very simple carbs. Just watch how things come apart and you'll be fine. The trick is in the sync & link. Totally different than a crossflow. You'll be fine, especially if you have a factory manual.

Besides BRP Engine tune, is there anything available at the F.L.A.P.S. (Friendly Local Auto Parts Store) that is safe to soak these carb bodies in?

I, too, want to go through mine (99 Johnson 200) before Spring, and only have Chemtool Carb Cleaner.

Thanks for the reply.  That BRP engine tune sounds like a decarb type of spray.  I'm in the same camp as Bob and want to know what is safe to soak the carb bodies in.  The mechanic in NC told me not to take the throttle body part of the carb off for cleaning, only the front bowl section.

Engine Tune comes in spray or in gallon containers. You can soak the plastic carbs, an hour should do it. Yes, you can do just the carb bodies if you don't want to clean the throttle bodies.
