The fix for stupid.....IQ level requirement for pro-creation and birth control for the stupid.

 :thumright:

The older guys will remember Paul Harvey.  Back in the '80s he suggested a test before allowing reproduction.  About half the radio stations that carried his show dropped him due to public outcry.

I do remember him
Out here in So Cal he was on KFI?

I may have mentioned this before, but in Port O'Connor, Texas, people literally sit in lawn chairs at one of the many ramps on Saturday afternoon, drink beer and jeer at anyone who can't get their trailer backed down and get the boat on the trailer, in a single attempt.

It's a very enjoyable spectator sport.  The loudest cat-calls are for the men who ask their wife to back the trailer down (9 attempts is the record before giving up) while they wait in the boat.  Or when the husband hangs the skeg on the concrete and blames his bride.  Almost as funny as the occasional "pre-mature launch-aculation" due to no winch strap and slippery bunks.

ps:  PJ can put the boat on the trailer as well as I can.  But I'm a trailer-backin' mofo.

Probably nothing will ever top the day I was waiting for an older couple, yes, older than me, to launch their boat.  He backed it down near the water, then he got in the boat and asked her to back it the rest of the way.  He got the motor started but could not get the boat off the trailer.  (It helps if you unhook the winch strap.)  He started yelling and cussing at her to back in further, stop, forward, back again.  He stood up and really got nasty yelling at her and shaking his fist.  She gunned the car, he flipped over the transom into the water, and she drove right out of the launch parking lot and I guess home.  He waited around a little while but as we were pulling away from the dock he was walking down the road in the same direction.

Hope she kept right on going, dropped the POS fiberglass off at the nearest ditch, and kept on gettin' it. Straight to the bank, drained the checking and savings accounts...and moved to Hawaii

Funny stuff, but sadly, I can see some of myself in those examples!!  Marc, you should've told those guys to check out this website-- they would've learned a ton of stuff!

In my early days of being a boat owner, I have definitely:

-cruised on plane in a NO wake and Min Wake Zone (wasn't aware, but was made painfully aware after the police stopped me!)
-run my motor without the muffs
-given a few docks a "love tap".
-had some trailering mishaps

And just LAST Friday, I had my coupler pop off the hitch ball!!!   :pale:   The latch was down, the lock was on, and I was just coming to the first stop sign and SLAM!  Fortunately it didn't fall, but merely came to a rest on my bumper. Boating... Always learning something.

Mike, I've pulled some boners too. The worst was the time I pulled outta town in a hurry at 10 pm hauling a boat to Hatteras.

Drove 3 hours, went to gas up...checked the hitch...the hitch was snapped down alright...but sitting on the TOP of the ball

Another time I was in a hurry one night to go flounder gigging...left the driveway towing the boat, battery charger, and 50 feet of orange extension cord. That battery charger was sparking like crazy and making a helluva racket

There's more....but that's all I can say in public

Ahhh the old hitch latched on TOP of the ball...  My buddy hitched my boat up to my truck one day...  I checked it..  yup chains are on...  lights are plugged in... and the hitch is latched...  good to go... I head on down the road to the lake for a test run...   I was speeding on down the road since it was getting late and I wanted to get to the lake in time for a test run before I ran out of day light.....  oh good! I just made that red light!  I zoom on thru the intersection.. forgetting about the big dip on the other side...  when something didn't sound or feel quite right...  I look in the rear view mirror...  hmm the boat looks a tad low...  I put foot on the brakes and I think for a moment...  hmmmm it looks like the boat is GETTING CLOSER OH NO IT IS!    and it's getting much closer!     Thank god for safety chains!    Oh and I needed a new jack wheel since it was worn flat!  LOL

Mike,

Sucked, but true. I would have purchased several cases of cool ones  in order to fore-go the behind the back chit-chat and laughter which occurred due to my goof-up.

Worse, at that point in life it was one of those "Fru-Fru" neighborhoods, HOA's, this board for this, that board for that, very "stuffy".

A redneck really didn't fit in well.

Glad I don't live there anymore. Way too much time spent being someone I wasn't.

I do that quite often
I think in my case it's because I live on the corner of a residential area and I am blocking one of the roads as I hook up.  So I pull out quickly (and without thinking it all the way through) so I don't block traffic to much.  Never fails that as soon as I back into the boat and am blocking the road, a car wants to get past me   .
I am getting better at this though - haven't had my wife running after me yelling at me to stop, lately (knocking on wood now).
