original "white" on a early 70's
« on: January 23, 2012, 09:03:37 AM »
Does anyone know of a current paint that is pretty close to the original "white" or off-white that came on the early 70's 22-2's?
I know theres a dozen white color choices on the market, just wondering if someone found a close match.

Thanks!

Not sure of an original match, but I have always been partial to Awlgrip's "Oyster White".

Have you been to fiberglass coatings over in St. Pete?  They have color chips of their gelcoat colors you can use to try and match your gel.

The best example I've seen would be Skoot's 19-6. The idea would be for him to match a paint sample to the underside hull bottom, which would be the area of least potential fading.

He is good at this, he matched the original green rubrail color perfectly when we were looking at reproducing the green rubrail.

He could then post the color code, and we'd have it in "Resources."

Please send him a PM, and I'll give him a call too :thumright:

After spending the day out on Skoots 19-6 yesterday and running into another 1975 22-2 I can tell you the original white is actually creamy off white.  The color is not that far off of my 81 too.

Iam using the Dusky White from Fiberglass Coatings on mine.
Its more of "Light Almond".

I believe I might have some Dusky White in the garage if you'd like a sample to match to your boat.

The original is definitely a creamy off-white.

On the rebuild we are going with the same off-white gelcoat color they use on Parker's...but it is a bit more "almond" than the original.
