As long as it is a light one - remember, the 170s don't like a lot of weight on their transoms.

I really took this comment seriously and I decided to go with a 30lb or so 5 horsepower I found on Craigslist. When I heard it was an 2004 Evinrude, I just couldn't resist taking a look at it. With less than an hour on it, and a good start on a second pull, I picked it up for 400 bucks and took my chances. I did about 2.7 MPH in a 1 foot chop against an incoming tide so it serves its purpose...not exactly ramming speed but better than that plastic oar I bought :joker:

nice and light - much better than my electric trolling motor - about equal in weight when I count in the battery.
