The Director phoned yesterday and said her maiden voyage was to be today on Lake Lanier. He also said he was going to find the largest boat wake that he could and attempt to go airborne.

 :flower:

I also will look forward to hearing about this feat of daring

What Scott is referring to is when I picked it up the other day I went to the one station on the east side of ATL that sells non-ethenol gas. The PO had told me when I bought it back in Feb that he thought it had about a half a tank. Its a 70 gallon tank and when I start filling it I had planned to add oil in since the VRO is disconnected. So here I go pumping away and when it got to twenty gallons I stopped and thought to myself I better go ahead and add the oil mix in for the 20 gals ( I had already mixed the right amount of oil for 20 into a single gallon of gas). But like a idiot I said what the hell and thought I would go ahead and put in 25 and then add the oil mix. But no, 23 gals and bam it shuts off and it starts shooting oil gas mix out the vent! Great! , now I have a slam full tank and not enough room to add the oil mix. I went on and towed it back to the house and undid the primer and pumped off about 3 gallons into a can. I then added the mix for the 20 gals into the tank and topped it off with what I had drained off. I "think" I'm pretty close on ratio now. The one good thing that came out of this the PO was wrong, there was about 47 gals in her at say 3.50 a gallon, about 160 bucks of fuel in her!

So Lewis - how old is most of the gas in the tank?     Did the PO pour some Sta-Bil in or something like that?

I hope you have a good filter/separator installed.  You might want to take a spare cartridge when you go out.   :thumleft:

I've been reading a little about the shelf life of ethanol blended fuel lately, and as soon as the Ethanol is blended with pure gasoline, it has a maximum shelf life of only 3 months.  Who knows how long the E10± has been in the underground tanks at the gas stations... a lot of it is probably already past the shelf life.

There's NO additives out there that prevent the alcohol laden fuel from absorbing moisture, so Lewis, unless you know for sure that the fuel in your boat originally was not the corny stuff, I'd be real careful running it.  Even if you add fresh fuel to the mix, its not going to prevent your motor from picking up the water/separated fuel that may be in the bottom of your tank.  But, I'm sure you already knew that.

My engine had a little hiccup last time I took the boat out... I checked my Racor, and I had water in the bottom of the reservoir.  I haven't used it since for this reason, and I'm not going to use it again until I siphon all 30 gallons of remaining fuel out of the tank and the lines and replace it with non-ethanol gas.

There's a lot of info on ethanol out there, and most of it is presented in a way that only a chemist could understand, but this is a good site for most of us lamen:

And here's something I just ordered for CHEAP that will tell you how much water is present in your fuel:

Experienced my first ethanol issue on the jon boat a few weeks back. The fuel line line with bulb in the middle, two OMC female clips on the ends.....was sucking air. Engine starved for fuel. Finally figured out the o-rings inside the clips were shot due to ethanol.

Went and bought two new clips...they said they have sold more of these in the last six months than in the preceding ten years.

The BP station down the road just put in a non-ethanol pump. 89 octane, $4.09/gallon. Just got 5 gallons for around the house. Glad to know its there, that's what I'll run from here out.
