Help and advice needed - looking at buying my first 222 :)
« on: August 14, 2011, 08:17:22 AM »
I am considering buy a friend of a friend's redone 1969 222 flat back.  All the work was done by full throttle powerboats in Jax in 2005/2006.  Here are the details with a few pics of the rebuild.  Im waiting on more and will post as they come in.  the boat is fuel and go ready.

1969 aquasport flat back 222 with title!
2001 yamaha 225 ox66 saltwater series - owner says its in 100% mechanical condition
new stringers, floor, transom and storage
2 new 30gal stainless tanks
40 gal livewell behind leaning post
Porta bracket
hyd steering
new console with flip up front seat
Lenco hyd trim tabs
2006 dual axle alum trailer
bimini top
box cushions
GPS

Id like to know what i should pay for this boat or what its worth, etc etc.  havent seen too many out there and i figured id come to the source to see if someone could help me out!  Im pretty close to making a decision but want to make sure i make a good buy.  He's asking $17,500.

Thanks!!

Really looks good. Reading who it was redone by, says to me its most likely worth that. My concern isn’t the boat but the motor.  I don’t care how good a friend some one is. I always do a compression check. Run the motor and get it up to temp. Then remove the plugs and check the compression. Their shouldn’t be more then 10 psi difference between cylinders. As for the compression. I haven’t done any Yamahas in a number of years. So I don’t know what would be acceptable for one from 2001. But I do have a rule of thumb. Nothing under 110 psi. I like to see at least 120 psi. But that's just me. Rebuilt to may for friends that where told “oh the motors in great shape.” Yea all the way up till it blow.

Hi Roosty,

Very nice; got any pics of of under the floor? Curious about the new stringers and the coring material. Plenty of motor for that hull, any bow steer issues at high speed? If the boat is as good as it looks especially under the floor, I'd say its a reasonable price considering that the rebuild and rigging costs could easily be in the asking price range. Really like the custom hatches, no plastic I assume. Why does the current owner want to sell?

Very true. Thanks for the input. I havent seen the boat personally yet. It's in jax and I'm in St pete. If I'm going to make the drive I comin home with the boat so trying to do as much research as possible. If motor comp is good, then I'll make my base offer. If it's not then I'll go down from that number based on what motor comes back at. If motor is good it's worth about $6k give or take.

I need to ask. Pretty sure it's all composite and good stuff considering the company that built it. But I'll make sure. Thanks for input. He's selling because he doesn't use it much an the economy.

beautiful, professionally done boat, probly worth the asking price, however there is always room for negotation, make the sale contingent on a water test and a yamaha tech,of your choosing to go over the engine, flip all the switches, make sure everything works, all gauges, pumps, lights, etc, get full documentaion on rebuild for resale purposes, good luck! :salut:
