I am deciding whether to rebuild the 90 I have or put a 115 on my boat. I just bought the boat and it has carb problems so I don't know how it performs with the 90. Can anyone give me info on the performance with the 90 and the 115 two strokes.

From what I have been told the only difference is carbing between the 2 sizes.  The 170 should be fine with a 90.  I touch 40 mph with the 115 on my 170 but was told by the marina that does my service that it is a 90 and only the mechanic that carbed it would know.

I have a 90 on mine.  I think it has plenty of power.  I have it propped for hole shot and skiing.  Right now it will run at 36 mph and 5500 rpm with a 14" pitch four blade.  With my other prop I was getting 5200 at 39 or 40 mph with a 17" prop.  It always has plenty of power, gets good (enough) fuel mileage, and I own it.  If I were you I would have your engine rebuilt, save your money and run it.  If you buy another used engine who says it won't need a rebuild after one year?  What is wrong with your engine?  Is it just carbs?  Does it have low compression?

Skoot has a 90 Tohatsu on his 19-6...it did a great job. And we had 600+ lbs of guys onboard, plus ice, bait, cool ones, gear, full tank etc.

Either way I am getting a rebuilt motor. Sounds like I am going to go with the 90. The one i have now has carb issues and also the bar that holds the motor to the bracket is worn out and needs replaced. Dealership here says it will cost to much to repair for what the motor is worth because they have to remove the powerhead and labor will be high. For another 1,500 dollars i can have the whole motor rebuilt. They are going to pull the powerhead so they can replace the broken parts no problem.

I have a slightly bigger motor on my 170. I have been pushing 50 with my 135 Johnson. 10 mph don't seem like a lot but when the gulf gets bad it's nice to get back that much faster.
