Stupid newbie bilge pump ?

Going thru my 175 for a list of stuff I need to go thru.
I have an access plate to the bilge, but it appears that no bilge pump has ever been installed!
I plan to keep the boat in the water for extended periods of time when complete.
"Live on the water & hate Boat ramps"
Is this an issue?
Iam experinced with "in the water boats" & Have a back of the head prob with a sitting in the water boat without a automatic type bilge.

By all means get a pump in the boat,your asking for trouble if you don't,one heavy rain storm and a leaky hatch or pie plate and you can have gallons of water in that bilge,not worth taking a chance.

I second that.  I asked the same question and it comes down to an insurance policy, yes they have a lot of float in the hull,etc, etc , but for the money it makes sense to have one in

You NEED a bilge pump and float!!  Period!  And on a smaller boat such as a 170, you need the biggest one that will fit...low freeboard, smaller bilge, rouge wave will ship a lot more water into the cockpit than on a larger boat, etc.

I recommend an 1100 GPH pump (1 1/8" discharge hose).  1500 GPH even better.  Check out River Marine...http://www.rivermarinesupply.com/xcart/ ... age_1.html
