Figured I would keep this in the same thread.  No fish this time, but the same problem, thought I had it whipped when I changed all the filters, and it did run great.  Coming back in from 18 out, almost to the pass, and same old thing, alarm and RPM drop, fortunately I had a friend out in their boat, and it was a short trip back to the marina.  More water and gook in the Racor, and water in the engine mounted filter.  So Tuesday I am going to look into tank cleaning and fuel polishing by this guy right near the house, comes with good recommendations, also changing my fuel fill, vent, and putting a clamshell over the vent, I am done with this water in fuel crap.

Hi Marc,
The clamshell over the vent cured the water issue on my 22-2. Think about your last trips; were you quartering the sea on the vent side of the boat?

Yes, big time.  Also changed the vent out today to what I feel is a better design.  So Capt Moore called me this morning and we had a long talk about tank cleansing and fuel polishing.  http://www.fuelpolishingpensacola.com/
We will begin on my boat Wed.  He said if there is more than an inch of water in the bottom of the tank, they will let the boat sit for a day then, suck about an 1.5 inches out for disposal, because the layer just above the water is still a nasty mix.  Then they will begin recycling the rest of the fuel in the tank, also add some chemical?? His machine cycles it at 15 GPM, so it creates a lot of turbulance and gets everything moving from the bottom of the tank, he keeps going until he gets clean gas.  $250 for the service, .20 censt per gallon recycled, and a flat rate for the amount of chemical he uses?  I am figuring $300-350.  But My water issues will be gone once and for all.  Need a clamshell, and will be installing a new better quality fill neck.  More later

I have a buddy that had a 21 Cobia CC, around a '97 model, 200 Yammie. Same deal...would run like a champ, then give trouble. No rhyme or reason.

The boat was used mostly offshore. Problem was traced to the vent sucking seawater. They did exactly what we've discussed...small stainless clamshell protecting the vent from the waterline...end of issue.

BTW, good running boat in the ocean. Fast for her size. Bad engineering though on that model. Held rainwater on the foredeck in front of the console, eventually leaking below. Floors got real soft, he ditched it.

Alright, update on the "suckin sludge" got the boat back today, he pumped about 5 gallons of nasty crap out, including 1.5 gallons of water, said there was stuff in there looked like eel grass   all totalled he cycled 290 gal through his machine, and I only had less than a 1/2 tank (50-60 gal est) so he moved some fuel through his machine.  There is an additive that he uses, and recommends to all his clients, will get the literature out later when I get the sheet, something I have never heard of, but he states that THIS is the only stuff to put in your fuel, and use non-eth of course, and since we have a few stations close by, that is what I have been runing anyway.  $385 lighter than I was.  But I can't wait to see the results.  Tomorrow is top it off (85-90%) is where he recommends keeping it to reduce condensation, change the RACOR again, and run it on the hose for a while to flush what is still sitting in the engine out.  Then its grillin time, Mike (Glock Diver) is coming by, so I get to meet another AS shipmate.  Cheers  :salut:

Marc,

When I saw the photo of you (and your most excellent catch) I kept going back to the photo because you looked so danged familiar.  Then I put 2 & 2 together and realized the likeness...hopefully this link to You Tube will actuate.

If you are not the spitting image of Cpt. Billy Bones (Oliver Reed, arriving in the skiff - fast forward to when he is at the door of the Admiral Benbow Inn).

What say the rest of you, aaargh ?!

(I got the dang thing to work).  Two final notes.  If you've never seen this movie with Charlton Heston, it is THE BEST dern pirate movie ever made, bar none; and two, that opening song is THE BEST dern pirate theme song ever recorded, bar none.

There, I said it. Hope you enjoyed the comparison.   Cheers, T

I'm the guy in one of the first pics holding the biggest snapper of the day  :thumright: Have a great weekend..

Logged 35 miles yesterday, and afterwards checked the clear RACOR Bowl, spotless, and zero sign of water, so the tank cleaning and fuel polishing apparently worked well, also got better fuel economy according to my fuel management gauge.  :salut:
