1985 Evinrude 30HP Foot

Hey guys,
working on a 1985 30 HP Evinrude for a friend, trying to remove the foot.  Unlike the larger OMC motors I have worked on, this one does not have a clevis and pin connection under the powerhead that you would remove to release the shift rod.  THE POS Seloc or Clymers? manual showed dropping the foot down a little and there would be a screw you could access between the midsection and foot seperation area which releases the shift rod, but that is not the case.  Up top the shift lever shaft goes through a journal and connects to the top of the shift rod somewhere under the powerhead but inside the lower cowling which appears un accessible without removing the powerhead?  A diagram on Iboats shows a circlip on the shift lever shaft, and a flat end which apparently engages the rod to move it up or down.  Any help is appreciated. Here's the exploded diagram off BRP.com Don't know if it will help but good luck! Well that didn't work but you can put the year and model # and zoom in to see just what is there!

If I'm not mistaken, remove the water intake screen and you shall find what you seek!
