96 175 Repower Options.
« on: June 21, 2011, 11:31:25 AM »
Guys

Im looking at a 96 175 with a blown motor.  I want to repower with a 115 Yammy 4 Stroke.  My concern is with all that weight on the transom the

scuppers will be at or under the waterline.   I could reposed with a lighter 4s 90 but then I'm locked into a "little" boat if I ever want to transfer the motor to another hull.

So what do you guys think?

Thanks!

Tommy

What is the motor you would be replacing, for me a Yam 115 4 is alot of weight 414lb http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/pr ... specs.aspx  not sure that boat would handle it,i think you best bet would be to stick with a 2 stroke in that HP range.

Boat has a 2s 90 Johnson on it currently.

4 stroke is the only option for me.  I do believe the 90 4 stroke is 50 or so lbs lighter then 115.

The 90 may be the way to go it is a bit less,45 lb http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/pr ... specs.aspx on that size boat every pound matters.

have you thought about a Suzuki 90,even lighter and good motors http://www.suzukimarine.com/df90-80-70/features/.

Candidate hull had a cracked transom.  So much for that.

Depends where the crack is. It's not uncommon for Aquasports to show a crack along the top of the transom where the cap meets the hull. Not hurting anything structurally.

You could go with Suzuki's new 90HP 4stroke.  Lightest 90HP 4 stroke available - only 20lbs heavier than 90HP ETEC
