Downrigger removal

I have a set of Penn 600-series downriggers on the back of my 250CCP.  There is a yellow knob at the base that appears to hold the downrigger in place.  Based on schematics that I've seen there appears to be a spring mechanism built it.  Does anyone know how to remove this?  I've tried turning, it but it doesn't move.  Is this fastened from underneath in some way or am I just an idiot?

The yellow knob is what releases the downrigger from the base.  If it will not unscrew (counter clockwise) then it is stuck due to corrosion or salt buildup.  I suggest spraying it several times over the course of several days with a penetrating oil like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench.  You may have to use a pair of channel lock pliers to get the knob to turn.  You can protect the knob from scratches with a piece of old leather belt or leather gloves.  Once the knob is fully unscrewed it should slide off of the base.  The base is probably through-bolted.

Thanks JJ.  I've already tried the channel locks on it to no avail, so will go the PB Blaster route now that I know it should turn.  Thanks for the help.
