Our new AS 215 Exp

Greetings All;

This is my first post (with photos), have enjoyed scanning the forum for lots of valuable insights on our new (to us) '99 215 Explorer. I am way out here on the wrong coast, and what this boat is doing so far from God's Country (FL, AL, & GA) I have not a clue.

I am all about huntin' & fishin', and keeping the Admiral smilin'! Can't wait for her to retire so we can move back to the land of WARM WATER and fish that fight!!

I have seen that you 'uns all like AquaPorn, so when I return from my vacation I will try to post some nice photos of this really beautiful boat (this is my first attempt at uploading photos, so here goes...)  :shock:


This boat is a dream come true for me !


It came with a nice custom cover.


We will christen the boat BARBA in memory of the Admiral's dear papa, his nickname.

We will post some "in the water" shots real soon - hopefully the tuna will be here soon if the water temp cooperates. I hope you all like the new boat - we are pretty jazzed !!!  :compress:

Very nice boat congrats,i think that has to be the first IO of that year range iv'e seen.

Welcome to the site!  We seem to be picking up a few folks from the left coast.   :cheers:  

That I/O setup should deliver some pretty-good economy numbers.   :thumleft:   What engine is it?  

BTW - the Carolinas are part of God's country too...    :salut:

Hey GoneFission,

           You are so right about the Carolinas, sorry I failed to mention them.  My wife and I stayed at Wrightsville Beach - does that sound like the place? Reminded me of where I grew up in FL, at the Space Coast.  We both loved Carolina...haven't been to S. Carolina but I am sure that is nice also.  Anywhere on the ICWW would suit me right down to the ground.

The IO is a 5.0L Mercruiser, naturally aspirated, at 220 HP.  I don't know much about determining the fuel economy, but I am all ears if you (or any other members) want to make me smart on the matter.

Thanks for your kind comments from the other posters.  I hope to linkup with some of my 215 Exp "homies".

same engine that was in our old, restored '81 Cobia 24 Caribbean, loaded weight of 6500 lbs, we could do a 150 mile round trip on less than 40 gallons WOT ran about 40 mph and cruised at 30 mph

Once the I/O version was introduced, we actually built quite a few of them, usually 5.0s, Volvo or Merc.  I'm pretty sure we offered the 4.3s, but since that boat really liked around 200HP, the 5.0 was the clear winner...

The only drawback was the engine box in the cockpit, but I think this really ony came into play with a boatload of fishermen...

Welcome and nice rig you have there! I am a 215 Explorer Homey and love the boat. It's perfect for my family of 4 and is easy to tow! I've always owned I/O and would have loved to have one on my current Aquasport. When you get a chance send us some numbers on how she runs.

Jason, I am glad to link up with an Explorer brother.  And your right, I love it and my wife is real happy, she says its roomy and secure feeling .  I will send you rpm/speed ratios after this weekend.  Don't know any techniques for establishing fuel/mileage numbers... got any tricks that you use ( and any other's who would want to make me smart on this?

                 Yea, I didn't realize the cover was anything special until the Admiral and I started trying to figure out WTF and how it fit on the dern boat.   Then we realized 'this ain't your typical boat cover'   We decided that it was the ShizzNizz, whatever THAT means.

Aaron, thanks; I do declare you are man of impeccably good taste.   And I am ALL ABOUT that kind of fuel mileage !!
