Trailer Time
« on: April 12, 2011, 09:55:36 PM »
Well it's on the "things to do" list, got all the parts last week, every last bolt, U-Bolt, Springs, New Pre-packed hubs with bearings.. the works.  Got her jacked up in the driveway, Hmm, that STB side rear tire sure did move a lot when the weight came off... Can you say "Lathe"... when I pulled the grease cap pieces of the bearing and cotter pin came out.  I was going to just do one side at a time, but now the axle has to come out.  So jack the port side, now the entire rig is sitting on jack stands under the frame.  Pull the tires/hubs, get the saws-all out, cut the top of the spring u-bolts, smack with a hammer, and the port side rear spring collapsed in 2 pieces, dropping that side of the axle to the ground, the only thing holding it all together was the spring tie plate.  So the rear axle is out, hopefully get a new spindle tomorrow from the trailer shop, and weld it all back together tomorrow afternoon, then I can get the running gear all finished, and move on to the rest of the u-bolts, bunks, risers etc.. etc...And the hits keep on comin...

Bring On Another Thousand!

But be glad you found those problems in the driveway, not on the Interstate at 60 or so...

This is the best trailer accessory I have ever seen.

I check the hubs when I get to the ramp and when I get home.  On a long trip I check them every time I make a pit stop.  You will know about a problem way before it becomes an on the road failure.

Marc, been there, good work.

Know was a wench, but doing it yourself just saved 70 bucks per hour in specialty labor.

Gotta like that.

 :salut:

JJ, good tool. Useful around the house too, detecting heat flashes (not weather related)

No need for a hot flash alarm around here.  At this point I can just assume there will be a minimum of two per hour.   :(

What a hoot! Imagine getting into a discussion with Mama while you have the laser temp probe pointed at her forehead and saying there is no evidence from a temperature standpoint to support that you are having a hotflash! I remember when my ex wife was having contractions with our son 25 years ago and I was watching the fetal monitor looking for electrical tremers indicating a uterine twitch approaching when I would say: " Honey I believe you are about to have a contraction". The ex would say: " NO Sh**t DUMB ASS!

Yes, that was a contributing factor, but also because I was a "worthless POS" and other catchy phrases...
