Moved My Battery Switch

Had alittle free time with the rain today so i was cleaning up my shop and found some star board and got an idea,take that tackle drawer i never use out and mount my switch there,came out great should have done it along time ago.

Mounted on the transom wall inside the bigger door below the tackle station.  Basically had to get down on hands and knees to operate it.

I've come up with a new idea that my customers seem to like.  Here, on the SeaCraft I just finished, open the side door to the console...



...and there it is.  I'll be doing the same thing on the Pathfinder.

Sometimes, things are born out of necessity.  

Take the Doc's Talon, for instance.  20 lbs. of doo-doo-ca-ca crammed into a 5 lb. console.  So I had the access doors do double duty.  Switch on one, stereo on the other...


And everything clears the batts by about 3/16"...

which way the arrow points is the battery that is on... and ive replaced both batteries with a pair of duralast group 27 dual purpose's

originally it was tucked way up in the console and hard to reach, plus the boat originally had one battery

Bob that's a slick setup,good thinking.

Aaron that works too   ,it dosen't surprise me the PO only had one battery,alot of people do,my dads boat has only one but already has the switch,just hooked up to the one battery,been trying to talk him into another battery and cables but he won't budge,he has jumper cables on the boat so if the battery dies he claims he can jump start the motor off his trolling motor batteries,may work but

I like the locations of all those switches, better than mine.  I actually had to move my switch a little further up (even FURTHER out of reach), to install my batt charger.  Hate stooping down to use it, but I actually use my tackle drawers, so can't put it there...

Just another location for the Osprey's with a glove box.  When I relocated the batts to the CC, my battery switch is inside the glove box, mounted to the right, with the cables going straight down to the batts.  Don't even have to leave the helm position to shut down or change batteries.

Mike, you may want to consider t/bolting it to the bigger door below your tackle center.  Get new cables, route them atop the stringer, then up to the switch.  Since that door is removable, you would want to leave a little slack in the cables...

BTW, for anyone who may not know, it is virtually impossible to rent or buy a heavy duty crimper locally (other than Grainger) without having to shell out serious $$ for something you'll use maybe twice in your life.  But this little hydraulic gem...


I picked up at Harbor Freight for $45 on sale, has interchangable dies up to 0GA, works like a champ, I use it all the time in my business, still looks like new, has paid for itself 20 times over...

Marc- what was your main reason for relocating your battery to under the console?  Weight?  I've never thought about it, but having that switch inside the glove box would sure be a breeze to operate.

Bob- good idea about the inside of that door.  I considered that too, but I've got enough projects to keep me busy through this weekend:

-New Gauge panel and glove box door (thanks to Marc)
-Fresh water washdown installation
-moving my stereo up to the E-box, and new speakers
