Fuel tank 250 Express fisherman 120 gallon
« on: July 06, 2010, 10:02:20 PM »
Hello, I've been given a 1987 25' express fisherman. Its in decent shape, but I need a fuel tank for it. Its not leeking but soon will be....I think. Whats the best way (least expensive)to get one. The coffin cover was rotted and I have already fixed that, thanks to instructions posted on this site. So the access holes for the fuel gauge and fill are in place for the original tank.

Thanks

Either find a tank that fits coffin or have one made.  As a rule figure about $10 per gallon for a new one, so that's $1200    Maybe more or less depending on where your located, shipping etc.

Pilgrim,
If you want, give me the dimensions and we'll see what RDS Aluminum can do, price-wise...

Thanks for the welcome and replys. I'm in Falmouth, Maine. The tank is 13.25" deep x 88" long x 28" wide. I can have one made locally, but I haven't gone to anybody yet. I thought there might be a place that would make tanks to fit Aquasport boats.

Thanks again

This is your source in your neck of the woods. He has made a fair number of replacement tanks for Aquas and everyone seems happy with his work. He's closer than the Fla. guys so shipping will be lower.

Hey guys,I also have a 1987 250 XF and was wondering if these boats did come with a 120 gallon fuel tank. The boat has a 5.0 Mercruiser (I/O). I ended up restoring the whole boat in 2010 and I have the stock tank and its the entire size of the floor. Also what prop will work good with this boat I currently have a 14.5 x 17 Stainless one.

The Resource forum will often contain information to commonly asked questions that have been amassed over the last several years. Also check the Photo Gallery which, while you can't post to it, often contains information on many of the Aqua models, in this case, yours.

A very nebulous question but often asked. Again the Resource forum may help by getting you started in the right direction.
Hopefully, someone will own a model exactly like yours and use it in the exact manner and will post their setup.
It could happen.

Hello Pilgrim,
I pulled mine two years ago. Turned out the tank was fine but the fill & vent hose were very dry rotted. I could rip the fill hose in half with my hands, check yours closely. It was not easy to replace them because thet were bedded in dense foam, alot of cuts & scratches on the hands. You literally have to dig them out from the fill end, side hand hole & from the coffin. If you decide to do it after you install new ones go to Depot & buy the expanding foam to fill the voids. A second thing you may want to do is install a fuel sender & gauge on the dash while everything is open. Run the wires up next to the fill hose before you foam it in, from there you can get to the dash easily.
Good luck,
Curt

Hello - I have a 119 gal tank that was built in 2005 but used for one season - great shape, but not sure the dimensions would work for you - I will take pics and measurements if you would like - not sure about shiping, but I'm only looking to get $250 for the tank if you are interested.

pm me if you would like to talk more about it

Nigel
