22-2 deck setup
« on: March 09, 2011, 05:29:34 PM »
hey guys. long time lurker here. i got my feet wet and bought a 76 22-2 sandpiper. i plan on redoing the whole boat. (after ling season   ) plannig on removing the cap and sole and turning her into  a center console and throwing a tower on her.  when i get her going i really dont want anything on the deck. i plan on making a casting platform up front. so my question is does anyone have a good layout for this boat? storage for life jackets and stuff. i was thinking a leaning post with a live well combo. maybe 2 coolers built in. having a bigfish cooler and then an alternative for smaller stuff and drinks. my goal is to not have stuff on the deck. any ideas?

im at work right now so i cant uplaod any pics. but it looks just like this one  viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3817&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a     is there something wrong? i wasnt quite sure what you were trying to show me in those specs. also i was loooking for ideas on the deck that people have used during the rebuilds. alot of the rebuilds kinda just skim by all the storage and built in coolers.

You probably have more usable deck space on the Sandpiper than a 22-2 center console; excluding the bow area. Think about the alternatives. A friend of mine had a really sweet 69' John Almand 24' with a tower, look at converted Bertram "Moppies", Seabirds, Pursuits etc. All were side console; most with a forward cuddy like the family fisherman; but the open bow walk through windshield could work with some clever thinking. You could really have the retro 60's-70's look. There is a 74' 22-2 inboard for sale that Jesse (Marshmarlow) posted that had a killer tower on it. The guy has been sitting on it for over a year now. The tower is worth as much as the whole boat and it has the look of the old 240 tower. I would really walk through what you have and how to improve it rather than try to carve it up into a center console. I think your boat would be smokin hot with a tower, fish boxes on the rear deck; port and starboard, with a redesigned bow deck area more condusive to "Ling" fishin...

You are right Lewis; a step ladder works just fine for spottin ling; you ever rode on a Werner step ladder, strapped to the bow in a rolling swell at 15 knots while your lookin? Not so much brother!

lol slvring.. where is that at?   i really wanna put a tower that comes from the deck rather than the gunnale and make it a center console. deck needs to be replace so im going to be tearing it appart anyways. plus i plan on fishing some flats. i would only be able to ling fish on calms days. and on the off season it would be a killer bay boat.

Nothing wrong.
It's a "Family Fisherman"
Sandpipers came about in the 80s, later known as DCs (dual console). Aqua did made a DC (or walkthru/bowrider) in the 70's but it was known as an Xscape and was a dual hull rather than a mono.

I linked to the pics showing what I assumed you had and what it was known as.

Sorry, thought you were seeking ideas of what the craft looks like in the cc model.

I think that pic is either in Lake Worth or Juno.
Were you thinking of doing a flush casting deck in the front?

Here is another idea for a ling tower. I saw this off the end of the pier in Panama City last year.

what do you mean when you say dual or mono hull?

By that I'm refering to the number of surfaces in the water. Dual (meaning two) is deceiving and more refers to the space between multi hulls. A better description would have been "tri-hull".

Link to tri-hull/walk through/bow rider type having three hulls in water.

Mono hull is one surface, like most boats and is what your model would be classified as.
