Listing
« on: April 06, 2011, 08:43:36 PM »
Hello, Fellows
     I have a 1996 Explorer 245 Walkaround.
I've noticed lately that it is listing slightly to starboard.  I know the helm and batteries are on the starboard side, but I didn't notice a list when I bought it several years ago.
I have no idea what the construction is like under the floorboards;  is it possible that the stringers, whatever they are composed of, are waterlogged?  Does anyone have any experience with this?

     Thanks
     Ken

Welcome aboard PLM  :!:  :!:
Do you have the typical access to the bilge right in front of the motor that most Explorers of that vintage have?  Mine has the fishwell that is removeable and gives you this access

The sloped sides of this area are the stringers.
Do you have noticeable water in the bilge?  How many thru-hulls do you have below the waterline?

Rick,
Starting in 94, Aqua went to the Euro style transom.
PLM would have the enclosed stern with somewhat limited access, unlike ours.

94 model Explorer

97 model Osprey (but the stern/transom is identical for the Explorer).

PLM....Your stringers are "foam filled" and several active members have this model/style (various years) hull. I'll have to search to see if anyone reported listing. Hopefully someone will pop up with their experiences with this hull. Most seem happy.

Good luck.

Look at all that lost space that the euro transom takes up.  So if it is a 245 it looks like you end up with the usable space of a 200.

You're kidding right?

That's why they call it a "Yourapeein" transom.

Thank you all for the interesting (and funny) replies.
Yes, my transom is closed, and the "innards" are seemingly inaccessible.  (I can barely touch my rear bilge pump with the tips of my fingers.)
The list may be something that I have to live with.  If it gets no worse, I may assume that it is not a waterlogged stringer.  Perhaps I can try to relocate a battery to the port side, although there doesn't seem to be an obvious area to place it in.
