Cooler hinges
« on: February 21, 2011, 02:14:59 PM »
Does anyone know where I can locate a pair of 2 1/2 X 3 inch white plastic pinless hinges from the cooler top on my 175 Osprey?

The originals are stamped C.E. Shepherd Co. Houston, Texas but as far as I can find out they only sell in large quantities:-)

Well Bob,
I can't tell you where to buy them but....
I called CE Shepard, told the young lady that I needed just two (2) and they will be sending me a sample pack. They're 2 1/2"x3" in white. Never hurts to try.

PM me your address and I'll send them to you when I get um. She said they would ship out today. :thumleft:

Does that work for ya?

Here is what we use to replace the cheap hinges on all these coolers.  Use the original top and bottom plastic pieces of the hinge, get a piece of seatbelt nylon web material, cut it to the proper length, melt the ends.  With the cooler lid closed, screw the top and bottom hinge pieces through the material and into the cooler top and bottom, nice snug fit, completely imune to the elements, will never bust on you again.  And CHEAP.  If not for this case because of asthetics, maybe the rest of you can get the idea for the igloo and coleman cooler hinges that always bust when the lid goes back too far, or someone closes the lid with a chunk of ice caught between the lid and box.

I have done that with weird electrical connectors.  Call the factory and tell them you are working on an invention and they will send you samples.  ;)

I tried to PM Captain Bob but not sure it worked.

I also tried to subscribe to this forum with no luck.

My email address is rjh@bobro.com and I would welcome any help.

Thanks,
