Hook Up for Hawaii

Just throwing this out there, we are taking a trip to Hawaii the last week of April, looking for anyone that might know someone over there, to get some inside information on quality fishing trips.  Going to Oahu, (Honolulu) staying in Navy housing.  Thanks

Yeah, when I was stationed on Diego Garcia (a very small atoll in IO) we would load up every day that we went fishing, YF's, Wahoo, and marlin and sails, all caught no more than 2 miles from the beach.  From the dock to "lines in" was about 10 minutes.  Korey wrote me back, we are going to try and get together, he also gave me the name of one of the best captains over there in his opinion for a regular charter.  Thanks again.

Hopefully we will be able to hook up with Korey, BC if all the charter boats operate like the one Korey recommended, they can keep their trips for the rookies. :scratch:   I contacted the Magic Sportfishing charter, here is their reply:

"975.00 for a full day private, 8 hours.
200.00 per person for a shared full day trip. (this is where you just get on the boat with strangers)
Shared trips need a minimum of four to leave the dock.

Fish caught over 100lbs are kept by the crew and sold at the local auction(this is how fishermen make their money and when charter member decide to tip: customary 20%), you are entitled to 20-40lbs. of fish you catch under 100lbs on a private charter, one to two pounds on a shared trip."

So on a shared trip I pay $200 for plus tip.. I get a couple pounds of fish?  and for $1200 my group can keep 40 lbs.  If this is how they make their money where does the $1000 I paid for the boat go?  they probably don't run more than about 20 miles all day long.  We are catching tuna in the 50 Lb + range, Dolphin, Wahoo etc... they are selling my catch and making probably at least as much as I paid for the trip or maybe double on a good day?? WTF :scratch: I don't mind paying a grand for a boat of that caliber per day, and I certainly don't mind sharing my catch with the crew, but for the charter industry in Hawaii to advertise they are going to keep all your fish?? And this is advertised in many charter boat ads, basically you are going on a commercial fishing trip and paying them a $1000 to crank in their fish... Not this boy....

That is TOTALLY effed up!!!

I mean, here, you not only get to keep what you catch, the Cap cleans them for you too...

I know it's pricey to live in Hawaii, but that's an effin' joke!  And here's what we say to that...

And Rick or CB, you can clean this up if you want to...

I've "heard" of charters that did this but never saw anything in writing ...  do they have a website?  That's blatant robbery.

There are exceptions to this rule, but as a general statement in their advertisement, most tell you they will keep all or most of your fish, I guess you could beg for some more from the captain if you tipped them extremely well... this gets my hair up even to think about it, I didn't just leave Toto on the farm in Kansas, and they can kiss this Howlie's A$$

Charter captains among themselves refer to their clients as "winders." In Hawaii, from your report,  they are winders for commercial fishing.

Best of both worlds. You make 1K every day before you leave the dock, guaranteed. Then you sell what is boated.

Reminds me of the old joke "the greatest thing about prostitution."

You sell it, but you still got it.
