shaft length 19-6
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:50:41 PM »
Hey New to the site but I've been reading the posts for a while. I am repowering my 1986 19-6 because mine has blown. I was wondering if anyone knows how long the shaft needs to be. I am new to buying motors.Ive been looking around and I've seen 20inch and 25inch shafts. First can I use a 20inch shaft? and second how would I measure if I need a 25 inch shaft. Also are there and drawbacks to having one size over the other?

Thanks
JP

Measure from the keel to the top of the transom, at the centerline.  I'm not sure what the transom height was on an 86' model, but my 73' was originally 20".

Seems that the advantage of having a 25" shaft outboard is that 25" shaft outboards are easier to re-sell, which is the main reason I raised my transom to 25".

Transom height on my 86 170 was 20" and a 200 is also 20"

Not sure what a 19-6 was in that year (didn't know they made them  )

Pretty sure your transom is a 20" and I think you also have an Osprey 200 if it's an '86.
