securing anchor on explorer on bow when not in use

Right now i secure my anchor by tieing the chain around the front cleat, kind of bulky .Im not able to put enough tenson to get it tight against bow pit.  I really dont want to put a tensoner on the bow, because i plan on installing a windless next year some time. Any advice would be great!

Just use a bungee cord,works great and odds are you have some laying around,that's all I've ever used and never a problem,i use the the green ones that match the trim on the boat,just wrap around the cleat twice and attach both hooks to the first link off the anchor,i get at least a year out of a cord,when the color starts fading out replace.

bungee sounds like a great idea, do you ever have any problems with the anchor slaping against the pulpit with the bungee streches ?

Nope just wrap any excess cord around the cleat that takes most the stretch out of the cord,i have a fairly heavy anchor and it holds it tight.

Yep.  
I had zero trouble with this.


  My problem with the anchor tensioner was that in the 5 years I had the CCP not one single person could figure out how it worked so I was always stuck with doing it, especially after my buddy secured it and we took off and hit a wake and the anchor deployed at 25 mph.  The same thing will happen with a bungee sooner or later.

Oh yeah, you need extra security with a windlass too.

The tensioner can be a pain to get right,I have a tie wrap on the chain link that goes on the tensioner.

I actually made my version of the one above.  A swim ladder bracket and a push-button release pin are much cheaper.  I make a tether for the pin out of 140# coated leader cable and crimps.

I tried using just the cleat on my Explorer and with the Danforth I had, it didn't work real well. In fact the anchor didn't lay in the pulpit worth a hoot.






I searched and searched and found a plow that fits real nice in the pulpit:




It layed a lot better but I still needed to find a better way to secure it.


You can use a Chain stopper:

This is what I went with - like what JJ posted above but modified so the clevis would allow the pin to slide through easily
