What Reds??
« on: January 30, 2011, 06:51:19 PM »
Went fishing here today:

The weather was absolutely gorgeous. That's me in the pink (lavender?) line, my trail from Northern Cooper River to the Wando River, there and back.  Used Mud Minnows on bobbers and Carolina Rigs, Gulp! Shrimp, and some Z-Man Shad... and got completely skunked

Was fishing an incoming tide all day, so I'm guessing that's it     Every boat I came across and every Tom, :*:, and Harry at the landing were singing the same song - not a bite all day.  Strange because I've been reading such great reports on Charlestonfishing.com.  Oh well, a bad day fishing is better than a good day _________.

On the plus side, boat is completely dialed in and I used less than an 1/8th of a tank all day.  That's pretty alright.  :pl:

I was hoping I'd come back with some fish tales.  Someone please tell me they've had some luck lately.  I'm depressed  :pale:

Jesse,
Haven't been paying attention to the weather in your neck of the woods, but did you just have a cold front pass through a couple of days ago?  Down here, when a cold front (low pressure) comes through, the pressure messes up the fish's equilibrium.  It takes a good 2 days for the fish to recover, and start feeding again.  You can konk them on the head with a live shrimp, and could care less...

It has been cold lately, went from 50's, to low 40's, to 70's this weekend, so there might be some weight to that.  It seemed they had all given up on life...  I'll keep that in mind next time I think about chasing them all day... a Booze Cruise would've been better  :thumright:

Jess,
It used to piss me off, we would have a cold front come through on thursday, saturday would roll around, chomping at the bit to go fishing, not even the pinfish would bite!  It's all about pressures.

After the front has passed, the 3rd day is the charm, as not only have they gotten back to their senses, they are HUNGRY!!!  In the meantime, enjoy a day out on the water...

“During a half-day or 4-hour trip, it’s not uncommon to land up to 30 reds,” Hall said. “On a full day’s trip, you can double that number most times.”

That's the kind of reports I've been reading here too.  Except for this past Sunday.  Checked CharlestonFishing.com - one person posted with some luck, "The DayMaker Red".  One fish all day.

Just goes to show, put a Marlowe on the water and the wind will pick up and the fish will stop biting.

Jesse, nothing worse than fishing reports. Or hunting reports.

"Shoulda been here yesterday." You guys engrave that on my marble. Have heard it all my life. That's fishing, that's hunting, the truth is somewhere in between.

I'm cool with honesty. We'll catch fish with the best of them.

 Thanks bro.
