Fried chicken, Bobby Flay Throwdown winner
« on: January 24, 2011, 02:43:59 PM »
Guys, think one of the reasons I've gotten so portly is watching Food Network. Could get worse when football season ends...

One of the shows I like watching is "Throwdown" with Bobby Flay. The story of a brash New Yorker challenging restaurant owners/chefs at their specialty.

Well he challenged this lady at her specialty, fried chicken. 'Ol Bobby left with his tail between his legs.

Print this up....its a goodun'.

Sounds like a winner.  I love Popeye's spicy chicken or the chicken from Jack's Hamburgers.  Theirs is spicy too.  Lewis might have a Jack's around.

I had no weight problem before I married this woman.  I blame it on her good cooking.  My mom and my 1st wife were not very good cooks.  The only problem with this yankee woman is that she can't cook fried chicken worth a damn.

Cooked it tonight for the first time. I'm sure it must be better than my effort.

Followed the recipe. Crushed the garlic, mixed the hot sauce in the buttermilk, trimmed excess fat, let it sit 22 hours as per direction.

Rolled it in the flour, put it in 350 degree oil/butter, as directed. Oil should have been around 325. Browned up quick. Was looking good at around six minutes per side. Threw it in the the oven per spec.

Let it stay in the oven around 18 minutes. Carolyn described it as "slimy."

Looking back, should have let it fry off more in the pan, crisping it up a bit, then to the oven.

Good news: very tender, juicy, flavorful. Not greasy...just "slimy".

Bad news: slimy, very slightly undercooked.

Nice recipe, particularly the buttermilk marinade (tender). Goofed it, but will fine-tune...in the meantime....try the collards.

Good disclaimer. My competition does that too.

We'll sell you this, but you see, we're not really sure what we say is what you need, nor as represented so we absolve all responsibility for the bad taste as left in your mouth.

 :puker:

JJ good point, therefore must reckon the Food Network is a buncha chickin' chits.

the recipe sounds good.  I'm sure you can tinker with it and come up with a winner.
