need help finding boat cover..
« on: November 28, 2010, 11:25:45 AM »
1980 Osprey 19-6.  I keep the boat on the trailer at the house and use it once or twice a month local but do tralier it anywhere from Palm beach to the keys occasionaly for get aways.  The original cover I had got trashed and I never really liked the fit.  I need something that is somewhat easy to take on and off, will keep the leaves and rain out, etc.  any recomendations would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd look up a local canvas guy - check his references (the fella I used gave me a reference, which was a marina and I called them right in front of him - you can usually tell if he's nervous that way).  Then get another or 2.  I paid $600 for my 170 cover.

I couldn`t agree more with Rick. Nothing beats a custom cover. I paid $1500 for an over the t-top and integrated engine cover over the twins. Built from Sunbrella 10 year warranty, 5 years on the workmanship, wear pads built for everything that pokes up. Its a lot of money I know, but it fits perfectly and I can put in on in 10 minutes by myself. I`ve never been able to find a generic cover that fits right.

I bought a Taylor Made boat cover, and I think it fits great on my 19-6.  Its very snug and many people think its custom made.  They classify them as Semi-custom and I have to agree.  They say its trailable, but I wouldn't go that far.  I don't need any support poles at all, and no water collects anywhere. The only spot it doesn't fit entirely snug is on the sides just behind the center console, but not really a big deal.
Anyhow heres the link.  http://www.boatcovers.cc/cgi-bin/newguide.pl

I choose the larger size, 20-21' length which will cover my outboard when its trimmed up.  I went with the Hotshot fabric (5year warranty)  and got it for about $150. I've had it for about a year now.

Not to be a smart ass, but I've been using a 20' x 30' tarp that I trimmed to fit.  I've replaced it twice.  That, and some cheap bungie straps.  I put it on by myself in about 10 minutes.

It works great, and I'm out about $40 so far.

yep,  I went that route already twice myself...  It's about time to invest a little more cash on a decent cover that will last and help keep the boat nice
