Foamed-in Aluminum Tanks
« on: April 07, 2006, 05:53:01 PM »
Interesting article regarding foamed-in aluminum fuel tanks and the reason so many of these corrode and begin leaking.

Anytime the subject of foaming a tank in is talked about that link pop's up.

It's fine for bigger boat's than we have, but there is no air circulation in the belly of these smaller boat's we own.

Therefore the link material is obsoulete for us. If you remove a tank from foam.
Coat the new tank with Coal Tar epoxy and use 4lb density foam to refoam it.
[not available at a marine box store, their's is 2lb density]

Now the alum is protected and will last twice as long as the first tank.
"Just \'cause it\'s new, doesn\'t mean it\'s worth a Damn!
