Shift cable or what?
« on: August 22, 2010, 03:48:53 PM »
I have a 1998 215 Explorer with Volvo/Penta 5.7 GS. The shift cable started getting stiff and then It would only work in neutral.
Finally yesterday it would only work in forward and would not go into neutral. Before I spend on ton of money on a new shift cable and shift handle. Does anyone know where I can buy the correct shifter and cable for this boat or what the model numbers are so maybe
I can find it on  ebay or some place cheaper.

Thanks for all your help.

First, disconnect the shift an throttle cables from the engine, then see how the lever feels.  Chances are the shifter is fine, it's most likely in the cables, and also may be the intermediate cable that goes from the engine attachment point into the outdrive...
