Under gunnel rod holders for a 1972 196

Well, I've finally got my 196 on the water and she runs great. The rod holders under the gunnels were not reinstalled and now I'm wishing they were. The top of the gunnels has quite a bit of flex and I need to put those rod holders back in for stability. Basically, you can't walk on top of the gunnels without feeling like they're going to break towards the inside of the boat.
Does anyone have a template for the teak rod holders that will fit for this boat? Would you use teak or another type of material?

Hey man,
Glad to see you got her back together. I dont know if the 22-2 had the same rod racks as the 19-6 but I could send you a pattern if you needed one. I love the teak look especially if it is cleaned and oiled. Remember the well nut trick for installing the bottom screws on the rack to the gunnel. Someone out there should be able to send you a pattern for the racks from a 19-6.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with the varnished teak look. Thanks for the well nut idea. Did you have to glue them in the hole to keep them from spinning when the srew is tightened?
I'm really hoping somebody has the 196 template!

The well nuts were a light pressfit into the 3/8 hole I drilled, so they tightened right up. I`m on my third 60-70 mile trip in chop and everything else and they have yet to loosen up. I used to have to tighten the rod racks up after every trip! I highly recommend this little trick to everyone. I`m surprised know one came up with this one before.
