New guy from Poquoson Virginia, just got an Aquasport.
« on: April 09, 2009, 08:42:55 AM »
Good morning and thanks for this great Aquasport site!!  I recently bought a 1974   19-6.  The fella that sold it to me had just aquired it and decided it was too much for him so I got it cheap.  I am in the process of replacing the floors and transom.  Everything else seems solid, just nasty needs a good cleaning and some paint.  I've owned a Gradywhite and a Wellecraft in the past, but I am very excited about this Aquasport.  I think it has classic lines and is going to look and perform great.  I'll be asking for help, and will post some pictures when I can.  Thanks again for this wonderful Aquasport site.  For now I just want to say hello.   Allan in Poquoson, Virginia.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.  It's been a decent day here and I have been mess'n with the Aquasport.  She has a long way to go.  I bought her about a month ago.   I trailored her home at night with only some makeshift trailor lights and no registration for the trailor.  I was lucky and didn't get pulled.  When I got home I tried backing her into the back field and promptly got stuck.  We had several days of rain and the ground was like mush back there.  The next morning I discovered I had almost parked her in the garden.  Couldn't see in the dark.  Took me a couple of hours to dig my truck out and another week to move the boat to higher ground.  Finally was able to cut the transom out after picking the brains of some of the local boat-yard workers.  Poquoson is an old Watermen's village so there are a lot of old timers...and some younger ones who still work the water.  There are lot's of boaters here and a number of marinas and public boat ramps that will get you right out to the Chesapeake bay.  I live within a 5 minute drive to 3 boat ramps.  For reference, Poquoson is next to Langley Airforce base in Hampton Virginia and across the bay from Norfolk, Va.  It's a wonderful place for boating and fishing.  Hope I haven't been too long winded, just excited to be on the site with so many other enthusiasts and chomping at the bit to get my Aquasport in the water.     Allan in Poquoson

Hey its great to have you in our family and also in virginia area, I fish the bay and the many bridges and tunnels in tidewater. Its a great fishing area year around, we are so lucky and blessed we live in this fishery.I see many aquasports in the area and some fine looking boats mostly 17 ft and 19 ft not two many 22-2 . Alot of new aquasports, use to be a dealer in norfolk in 2000 but stop selling or making them. Well good luck with your new boat hope to see you in the bay.SANDMAN :!:

Welcome!

Glad you're a new owner, and new friend. Whatever questions you may have, ask away. As Cap'n John said tonight, the best thing about our site as compared to others is....no egos here, no back-biting, no nothing...just folks who give a darn.

Show us the new girlfriend!

Best to you,

Scott

Welcome, I spent 4 years up there fishing on the bridge tunnels when stationed at Norfolk, without question, the best flounder fishing I have ever done.  Huge door mats around those islands  Let us know what you need..

Drift with really small egg sinkers, 3' leader (Carolina rig) 15lb flourocarbon, long shank hook, and a bull or mud minnow, finger mullet work great also.

Door mats?  Did someone say door mats?  We used to get them in the late 60s, early 70s in Sarasota Bay...

I think my best last time I was on Ringling Flats was 15"...maybe a "place" mat... :silent:

Corner of 520 and A1A...
