BP isn't the first with this problem

Imagine that.  Stuff happens, we survive.  Lets get it fixed and move on in life.

Whoa ..amazing that, exactly like she said, they've gotten better at drilling but not better at preparing for an emergency...

I don't think we are overreacting.  We do need to get this fixed.  And no one wants to see this happen again.  But, we don't need the media saying that the oil will kill everything that it touches.  I have heard that on CNN a few times.  Oil seeps out naturally everyday.  http://geology.com/nasa/oil-seeps/

Seeping is one thing this is pouring at how many gallions a day and have you seen how the animals, birds and fish are doing.Won't want to eat fish or shrimp from the gulf much longer.

Seepage accounts for a lot of oil.  http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl ... _gulf.html

It seems to me that looking at seepage and the oil spill is like looking at apples and oranges.Seepage is a natural occurrence we can't really do anything but study right now The spill is something we made happen because we are greedy and didn't want to take the time and spend the money to do things right in the first place. Please don't get me wrong I use gas to but I want to be able to show my grand kids the gulf I grew up in.

I saw on the news yesterday where the bottom near shore was covered in a thick crud - so you know nothing is going to grow.

You are very right about comparing them.  I just wanted to show that a small amount is normal.  All I want is for them to get this fixed, then improve designs on valves, and prevent it from happening ever again.  I guess I don't like the media hyping everything up so much.

Rick, what was the crud growing on the bottom?

The crud wasn't growing, it was oil laying on the bottom - thick and covering a lot of area, I'm assuming since light can't get through it, it's going to be killing anything growing.

It must be an oil by-product.  Oil is less dense than water.  So it should float.  Maybe it has combined with some other debris and sunk to the bottom.  Could it have been drilling mud?  That would sink but not settle like normal mud.
Unfortunately we only know what BP tells us.  So it could be only half the truth.
