I/O vs Outboard 222 & Walkaround
« on: September 28, 2005, 10:07:53 PM »
My Dad has owned a 1973 222 cc for thirty years on Lake Erie.
It has a 165 Mercruiser I/O, recently rebuilt, and other than being stern heavy at the dock, is a great boat.
I am now considering a 1987 222XF Walkaround with 230 Mercruiser I/O, for use on Lake Erie & maybe Fla. trips. Any thoughts welcome!!!
Should I buy my Dads boat and pass on the Walkaround?

In general, I would go with the boat you know, especially if it is in good shape.  The other question, though is whether you really want a center console or a walkaround, and whether you need the covered space.   Note that I didn't say cabin as the 222 really is not very large inside.  It is convenient in terms of secure storage, however.

I have a 1982 22.2 center console with an outboard (200 mariner) and love it.

Welcome aboard.
