1987 222 Osprey pics

This is the boat that got me hooked on boating/fishing.  My sister has the boat now and might have used it for 4 motor hours so far this season.  We had it repowered this past 2006 with a new 150-HP OptiMax.  I had the pleasure of taking it out this past Monday for an hour and it was a treat to get out on it again and see what the differences were compared to my Dusky.

Here is Dad taking it back after having spent some time fishing for snapper blues with my baby-sister and nephews;

Then by the dock;

I was amazed at the holeshot considering my beast of a Dusky with its 5,000 lbs and 25'/20-degree deadrise and 250-HP motor, it is much more of a slug coming out of the hole compared to the 150-HP and the 12 degree deadrise 3000 lb 222 Osprey.

I also noticed how slow the 222 will plane.  I was at around 2,500 RPM and the 222 was on plane, that is what a 12-degree deadrise will do and no load other than maybe 40-45 gallons of fuel in the 70 gallon tank and my 60 lb nephew with me.

I went out in the 1' chop and while the sharp-er bow did a good job at cutting through the chop, I was reminded about the lack of bow flare and relatively upright bow-sides that let the spray come right up and in, letting me know why I always wore my foul weather gear when underway.

It is nice to be able to both see and ride around on ones first boat as well as still see other loved ones using and enjoying the craft.
