A 175-HP would be nice as that extra power would definitely make a difference.

I'm sure if you look enough, you will find some deal on a leftover motor as Opti's are relatively cheaper anyway.  I had seen some great deals on 1-2 year old motors or low hour motors.

I agree with the weight issue as well, the lighter we can keep it back there the better for sure.

The guys on here know all there is to know about the project and I'm sure you know way more than I do about that stuff.  All I know is how the boat runs and how to keep it running.

Definitely putting the biggest hatch you can in that space is a great idea.
Hope you keep this thread going with the progress.

While I do miss the 222, my current boat is a joy;

Here was my biggest striped bass at the time in the cockpit of the 87 222, can even see a bit of the Opti there along with the distinctive grey nonskid sole, a nice touch that I wish my Dusky had;

Whats up Ritchie what have you been doin these days?  You ever off that Maverick?

That was a nice boat but I think i'm over flat backs for life, too many negatives IMO.  That coming from putting over 600 hours on that one.

When this 86 is done it will be a much better all around boat than that one ever was.  Atleast if the money doesn't run out lol.

Yessir out of the maverick and onto a sheaffer. Couldn't be anymore happier.

I'm waiting for this el nino weather to clear up to be back on the water again.

What all do you plan on doing to the 86? new power tower stringers cap...etc?

My buddy has the modified V, loves it. His is restored to the "t" with everything on it possible. It's a fishing machine

Yep hand built usually prevails over the mass produced, Sheaff's are pretty gross all around.

No need for stringers etc. on this one.  Solid as a rock, just gunna dress up the transom and paint it up.  Gunna keep it simple, tower, sick livewell, porta and hopefully new motor.

I sure would like to see some pics of the transome when your finished. I have a 86 as well and have wanted to paint and do some thing different with transome. I just put 200etec on mine. I've owned for about 12yrs. Had 220 yamaha and it ran close to 50.

Got a little work done today.  90% of the hardware has been removed and I spent a little time trimming up the transom.  I'm not sure what i'm going to do with it yet, but i'm thinking of filling in the motorwell gap,  and put a 1ft wide flat cap over the top to close it completely.  The little side boxes are probably going to stay, just cut some bigger hatches out for them.  Any suggestions let me know, I will be back at it on Thursday most likely.

Are you going back with the same console and fuel tank? How about that deck hatch behind the fuel tank coffin box what does it go to is there any room in there? Are you putting a bracket on the transome? Thinking of selling the etec 200 and putting a 250 on. I think this will make it a little quicker around the back rivers.

No I am trashing the old console, its a little too wide for my taste.  The fuel tank is going to be moved forward approx 3ft. and the little access hatch is to the bilge.  I cut it larger to gain access to my pumps etc. that are going to be put in.  I have a few more pics i'll throw up here shortly.  And the bracket is going to be a Porta bracket.  That is why i am moving the fuel tank forward to help offset the weight difference.
